Danville CROP Hunger Walk - Inclement Weather Plans

Those of you that have signed up for the walk or to volunteer please communicate with Evie Jackson 434-489-6736 or if you have any questions or concerns about Sunday. Below is the latest update from our Crop Walk organizers:

"Our Danville Area CROP Walk is scheduled for this Sunday, October 2, 3:00 p.m. at Ballou Park. We have been excitedly looking forward to walking with each of you and your teams.

Normally we walk “rain or shine,” just like the millions of people around the world who have to walk each day for their basic necessities. However, we want to make sure everyone is safe. Our plan is to make a determination on Friday or Saturday depending upon the forecast for Danville on Sunday. If it is rain only, especially light rain, we will walk together with anyone who is willing to brave the weather. If the forecast is for heavy rain, lightening, high winds or other dangerous conditions, our walk will be virtual only. And of course, anyone who does not want to walk in the rain may bring their group or individual contribution to Ballou Park on Sunday at 3:00 or to Mount Vernon Church, 107 West Main Streetbeginning October 3. Please call Beth Bauman (489-6514) to make arrangements to drop the donations at Mount Vernon by October 17.

Please watch for an update on Friday or Saturday and we will let you know if the walk is in-person (rain only) or all virtual (dangerous conditions).”

On Sunday, October 2nd, begin gathering at 2:30 pm at Ballou Park on West Main Street in Danville to walk starting at 3:00 pm

5-K Walk from Ballou Park to Epiphany and back to Ballou Park

1-Mile Walk from Ballou Park to West Main Baptist Church and back to Ballou Park

To register to walk or donate, visit our team page
2022 CROP Hunger Walk - The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany

Please help Epiphany meet our $1,000.00 goal by donating online, dropping in the collection plate or sending checks or cash to Epiphany.  Please note CROP WALK on the check or envelope.

Book Tour & Signing at Epiphany, Wednesday October 12th at 6:00pm:

The Rev. Roy Pollina, retired rector of Christ Church Martinsville and sometime supply priest at Epiphany will be here, in the Nave, to talk about his book, Justified by Her Children: Deeds of Courage Confronting A Tradition of Racism. His book is the account of the bravery and fortitude of the youth of Christ Church as they sought to stand with their rector and their bishop in an effort to integrate the Diocese of Southwest Virginia’s youth summer camp in the late 1950’s. In his foreword to the book, retired Bishop Heath Light wrote, “The picture painted by the Rev. Mr. Pollina is of racism confronted and beginning to be overcome, of alienation between generations moving toward reconciliation, and the death of one culture pointing toward the birth of another.” Please join us as we welcome Fr. Roy back to Epiphany. He will have books for sale and will sign books after his presentation.

    Safe Church Training - Update

The Diocese of Southern Virginia requires people who have access to the building with a key fob and/or those in certain roles to complete Safe Church Training every 3 years. If you have a key fob, regardless of what you do at the church you will need to take one of these training sessions.

Please Click Here to see which training you need.

Universal Training applies to members of the Altar Guild, Choir Members, and Disciple’s Dinner/Lunch Volunteers. Specialized Training applies to those on the Vestry, Clergy, Employees, Choir Directors, Program Supervisors, and Home Visitors (Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Pastoral Care Visitors, etc.).

Christ Church in Danville is offering in-person Specialized Training and Universal Training sessions Saturday, December 3rd and 4th. You must register online to attend, please note that space is very limited for both sessions.

Specialized Training: Saturday, December 3, 9:00a.m. - 3:00p.m. at Christ Church, Danville. Lunch will be provided. Click here to register.

Universal Training: Sunday, December 4, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. at Christ Church, Danville. Click here to register.

Another way to complete your training is through Praesidium Academy Online Training, where you will take multiple courses to achieve the level of training you need.  Click here to register for Praesidium Academy online safe church training.

Right now it is not likely that there will be in-person Universal or Specialized Training sessions this year at Epiphany. This is because there are only two teachers in the Diocese and there is already an in-person training session scheduled in Danville at Christ Church.
